Cordova Bay Cares!

Over the past month we have had many experiences and opportunities, both in and outside of our classrooms. Some are unique to this time of year and others are monthly traditions, however, all are connected to the District Strategic Plan and our school year-long theme of Caring:

  • A bagpiper performed for students for Robbie Burns Day at lunch followed by Highland Dancers performing and teaching all of the students Highland dancing.
  • For two days all students were invited to spend time with Metis Elders led by Jo-Ina. She shared Metis stories, culture, brought in artifacts, and the volunteers led every child in the creation of a beaded craft they took home.
  • Carnaval was celebrated with themed days, activities in the gym (including Beaver Tails from Sidney Bakery) and a school wide outdoor ice sculpture creation. The special events are supported by in-class learning of songs and traditions in French classes.
  • Family Read In is a monthly tradition where families are invited in one morning a month to read with children in their classrooms, hallways and library. This event is attended by over 200 family members every month.
