Salish House Post at School District Offices – June 21, 2022
The District unveiled a new Salish House Post at the entrance to its main district office. The post depicts a Salish Woman as a teacher who is standing with two children, wrapped in a woven blanket which serves as protection and a connection to their culture. The post reminds us of the importance of the W̱SÁNEĆ culture and history, and our commitment to creating learning opportunities and spaces where all children, including Indigenous children, can thrive and not give up who they are and where they come from. The ceremony was filled with spoken words, drumming and music with many elders in attendance. We heard from the artists, Chazz and Matt Elliott, who created this amazing symbol of hope.
