Saanich Schools Celebrate Orange Shirt Day

Schools throughout the district honoured the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation through celebrations, sharing and teachings.  Here are a few of the highlights:

Two Parkland students sang, danced and welcomed students into their learning with a Welcome Song (photo taken by Gr 10 Parkland student).

Indigenous Leadership students at Stelly's created a video with a powerful message.

Bayside school participated in a Morning Protocol, starting with a song and morning intention read in both SENĆOŦEN and English.  The entire school sat in a circle around laid out cedar to ensure that everyone in the Bayside community were acknowledged as part of the 'team' and committed to the work around Truth and Reconciliation.

ḰELSET classes chose a message relating to Truth and Reconciliation which was ironed on their class orange shirt.  Representatives from each class shared their learning at the school-wide assembly on September 27.
