French Immersion
French Immersion provides an opportunity for children whose first language is not French to learn a second language. Any child who is a resident within the Saanich School District may apply to enter the French Immersion program for their Kindergarten year.
Some benefits of the French Immersion program:
§ Students graduating from a French Immersion program receive a bilingual designation on their secondary school diploma, which can enhance employment and post-secondary opportunities.
§ French Immersion students follow the regular English curriculum both in structure and content while receiving much of their instruction in French.
§ Graduates of the program achieve a functional proficiency in speaking French.
§ Students develop an understanding and appreciation of French culture.
Any child residing in the Saanich School District may apply for Kindergarten entry into the Early French Immersion Program. Please refer to Administrative Procedures 214 (French Language Programs) for a complete description of the application process.
