Freedom of Information - Access for Information

The Saanich Board of Education is subject to British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and the School Act when handling personal information.

FIPPA enables the public to request and obtain copies of records held by provincial governmental public bodies when those records are not routinely available.

Requests for Information under FIPPA

If you would like to request records from the Saanich Board of Education, and those records are not routinely available through a respective department or on the school district’s website, you can make a formal request for records through FIPPA by sending an email to the Office of the Secretary Treasurer at communication@saanichschools.ca

All formal requests for records must be done in writing and provide sufficient detail to assist staff in locating and retrieving the records sought.

When submitting your request for records, please follow FIPPA, Section 5, How to make a request:

5 (1) To obtain access to a record, the applicant must make a written request that

(a) provides sufficient detail to enable an experienced employee of the public body, with a reasonable effort, to identify the records sought,

(b) provides written proof of the authority of the applicant to make the request, if the applicant is acting on behalf of another person in accordance with the regulations, and

(c) is submitted to the public body that the applicant believes has custody or control of the record.

(2) The applicant may ask for a copy of the record or ask to examine the record.
