Summary

This position is responsible for patrolling and supervising public drop-in, shinny and private rental sessions for ice and dry floor Arena programming. As a key member of the Arena team, the Skate Patrol will ensure participants’ safety, keep patrons informed of rules and policies, and deliver exceptional customer service in a fun, community-focused environment; ensuring a safe, inclusive and enjoyable experience for participants. In addition to on-ice patrol, responsibilities will include Skate Shop presence and duties, sharpening skates and minor first aid response as needed.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Skates with patrons; ensuring rules and policies are being followed to ensure safe and welcoming experience.
  • Promotes a safe, friendly and enjoyable recreational atmosphere.
  • Distributes skates and other loaner equipment.
  • Sharpens skates.
  • Completes visual safety checks of ice/surface and loaner equipment prior to public use, and continual monitoring of activity surface and surrounding areas throughout sessions to ensure they remain safe and clean.
  • Maintains records.
  • Checks for attendee receipt of payment.
  • Leads on-ice games and activities. 
  • Assists with the planning and delivery of special events.
  • Selects and plays appropriate music during sessions.
  • Completes general housekeeping around public Arena areas and Skate Shop.
  • Administers minor first aid and completes appropriate reports as needed.
  • Maintains safe work practices.
  • Acts as a liaison between the public and CRD.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Strong, confident ice-skating skills.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal and public relation skills.
  • Can effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers and public.
  • Ability to use sound judgement while creating a positive, enthusiastic and fun environment.
  • Ability to learn how to sharpen skates (training provided).
  • Ability to offer information about recreation programs and services to the public (training provided).
  • Interest and enjoyment to work with children, adults and public.
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision. 
  • Physical ability to complete the job duties.

Qualifications

  • Partial High School
  • Some directly related experience

Certifications

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR-C
