Summer Employment in the Trades at the Navy's Fleet Maintenance Facility
The Royal Canadian Navy’s Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (FMFCB) which is at the Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt is hiring students for their Federal Student Work Experience Program (FSWEP). This program is available to high school students in grades 11 & 12 who have an interest in the working in the unique trades to support repair work to the naval fleet. These civilian positions allow students to become familiar with the work related to the various trade disciplines supporting ship repair work on the west coast and provides 8 weeks of paid work experience supporting the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN).
Trades include:
- Metal Trades (e.g., Metal Fabrication, Sheet Metal and Welding)
- Hull Trades (e.g., Shipwright/Joiner, Painter, Lagger/Heat & Frost and Rigger)
- Pipefitter
- Refrigeration
- Machinist
- Millwright
- Electrician
