About Us: Island View Farm is a regenerative farm located on the Saanich Peninsula. We are a small team dedicated to restoring the land, building healthy soil, and growing good food, cut flowers, and a welcoming space for the community. We're looking for a reliable Farm Hand to join us for the spring season.

Position Overview: We are seeking a hardworking individual to assist with early-season farm operations. This is a short-term spring role focused on wake-up tasks: preparing the farm for the main growing season, getting beds ready, and supporting infrastructure setup before summer production ramps up. The work is heavily physical and includes field preparation, planting, and general farm maintenance, with some light animal care duties.

The initial commitment is from March 15th to April 30th, working 15 hours per week. Hours are flexible and can be scheduled to suit your availability. This position would be suitable for a student looking for an active spring job that works around class schedules, or anyone who prefers dirt and fresh air over a screen.

Growth Opportunity: For the right candidate, there is potential to continue into the main growing season (May through August) in a new, expanded role with different responsibilities. That position would be posted separately and could be either:

• Full-Time (roughly 30 hours/week)
• Part-Time (roughly 15 hours/week)

Start Date: March 15

Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour to start.

What You'll Be Doing (Spring Role – Focus on Setup & Prep):

Early-Season Field Work (Primary Focus):

• Preparing garden beds for planting using a walk-behind Grillo tractor (training provided).
• Flipping and amending soil by hand and with equipment.
• Hand weeding, seeding, and transplanting early spring crops.
• Assisting with initial spring harvests of overwintered or early plantings.
• General farm maintenance, tool organization, and infrastructure setup for the coming season.

Animal Care (Light Duties):

• Feeding and watering goats, chickens, and ducks.
• Cleaning coops and shelters.

Who We're Looking For:

• Comfortable with strenuous physical labour and working outdoors in varying weather.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
• Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a small team.
• Mechanically inclined or comfortable learning to operate equipment like the Grillo tractor is an asset.
• Genuinely interested in regenerative farming, local food, or working with the land.
• No previous farm experience required—we are happy to train someone with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
