Four students with medals

Saanich Middle Students Compete in Jr. Skills Canada BC events!

Each year from February to March, Skills Canada BC hosts regional trades and technology competitions throughout the province starting at school level, and progressing to Regionals and Provincials.  Saanich middle school students participate annually in 5 events (Jr. Wood Working, Gravity Vehicle, Spaghetti Bridge, Wind Turbine and Sumo Robot). These opportunities help middle school students develop practical skills, explore career paths, and build confidence through hands-on challenges. Students also learn valuable transferable skills like problem-solving, communication, and time management.

This year, approximately 500 students from Bayside Middle School, North Saanich Middle School and Royal Oak Middle School took part in school-based events.  Subsequently, 85 students participated in the Regional competition achieving Gold, Silver and Bronze, and 8 teams moved on to the Provincial competition achieving Bronze in 3 categories!  Congratulations to all the participants representing Saanich!  We are proud of you!
